The vision for the children’s space is one of nature based play in line with the mission of Lakeside to provide members with a space to share, learn, and grow.  Education, nature conservation, and awareness of healthy and sustainable local food systems are woven into the goals for our community. Perhaps the energy and curiosity of our children and grandchildren can reinvigorate our own sense of wonder!

Located at the centre of the garden, adjacent to the member plots, is a lovely shady spot for young gardeners in the making to play and learn. The space includes a sandpile, playhouse, toy kitchen and various utensils and toys to spark imaginative nature play.  There is a stump circle for seating, a frame planted with bean plants to create a “living” room, and a pawpaw patch which we hope will one day soon bear fruit. 

Of course, as with many of the projects at Lakeside, volunteers are critical to building and maintaining this space. If you or someone you know enjoys the children’s nature playground, perhaps you have time to help with keeping it clean, tidy and safe for all!
